Frequently asked questions

What most travellers ask us before booking a Sri Lanka trip.

Most visitors need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before they arrive. You apply for it online, and it is usually approved within a day. Apply only on the official gov.lk site, because look-alike sites charge extra fees.

Sri Lanka travel FAQ from the people who answer your emails

These are the questions we get before almost every booking. Do I need a visa, or is it an electronic travel authorisation? What is the best time to visit Sri Lanka, given that the island has two monsoons and the weather differs on each coast? How many days do I need? Is Sri Lanka safe for tourists, and what should I look out for on the road?

You will also find answers on vehicle hire, currency, tipping and what a private tour includes. Each answer is short on purpose. If your question is missing or your situation is a little different, such as travelling with a toddler or a wheelchair, message us and a planner will answer you personally. We would rather you ask now than wonder for weeks, and a short message is all it takes to get a straight answer from a real person.
