Frequently Asked Questions

Is 6 days enough to see Habarana, Kandy and the beach?

It is enough for a good first taste, though not for a slow trip. You see the elephants, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy and the botanical gardens, then finish with two nights by the sea. Days two and four are long, so this tour suits travellers who enjoy being on the move. If you want more time, a seven or eight day version adds a night in Sigiriya.

How hard is the Sigiriya climb?

It involves about 1,200 steps, some narrow and steep, and takes roughly three hours with rests. Starting early avoids the midday heat. Most people with average fitness manage it, but it is demanding in hot weather. If you prefer, you can walk the water gardens and the lower terraces and skip the summit, which still gives you a good impression of the site.

What is the best time of year for this tour?

February to April is a sensible window, as both the Cultural Triangle and the south-west coast are reasonably dry. The sea is usually calmest from December to March. Outside those months you can still travel comfortably, since showers tend to be short, though the sea can be rougher on the west coast in the middle of the year.

How long are the drives each day?

Airport to Habarana takes about four hours with the Pinnawala and Dambulla stops spread along it. Habarana to Sigiriya is roughly twenty-five minutes, and Sigiriya to Kandy two and a half to three hours. Kandy to the coast is a little over four hours of driving, and the coast to the airport about an hour and a half.

Can I see the elephants being fed and bathed at Pinnawala?

Usually yes. Young calves are bottle-fed by keepers, and the herd is walked to the river to bathe twice a day. Exact times can shift, so your driver-guide plans the arrival to match the schedule where possible. If your flight lands late, we may adjust the order of the day so you still see the bathing.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Yes, particularly for school-age children and teenagers. Many children enjoy the elephants, the boat ride on the Madu River, the turtle hatchery and the beach days. The Sigiriya climb and the longer drives are the tiring parts, so we can reduce the climb or add a rest break. Please tell us the ages of your children when you enquire.

What are the meal arrangements?

Breakfast is included every day at the hotel. Lunch, dinner and drinks are paid by the guest, so you can choose a restaurant along the way, and your driver-guide will suggest places that suit your taste and budget. Entrance fees to the sites are paid separately. Please mention any dietary needs in advance.

What should I wear?

Pack light cotton clothes, a sun hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes. Temples ask you to cover your shoulders and knees and to remove shoes, so carry a light scarf or long trousers. Kandy can be cool and damp in the evening, so bring a thin jacket, and add swimwear and a towel for the beach days.

Can I add more days or change the route?

Yes. Because every tour is private, we can add a night at Sigiriya, include a jeep safari, visit Galle Fort from the beach or extend your coast stay. Send us your dates and ideas, and we will adapt the programme, check availability at the hotels and send you a quote. Most changes can be made quickly, and there is no obligation to book.

What's included in the 6-day tour price?

Meet and greet at Bandaranaike International Airport; 5 nights in 4-star hotels (or similar), double or twin room sharing; a single room if you travel alone; Daily breakfast at your hotels (bed and breakfast); All transfers and sightseeing in a private air-conditioned vehicle; English-speaking driver-guide throughout the tour; Fuel, parking, driver accommodation and highway fees. The tour costs USD 751 per person when two adults share a room, or USD 1410 for one traveller in a single room, for 5 nights / 6 days. These prices are valid for travel from 8 October 2026 to 30 November 2027.

What's not included?

International flights and the Sri Lanka ETA visa fee; Lunches, dinners and drinks (breakfast is included); Entrance fees and activity fees (Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya Rock, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and cultural show, Peradeniya Royal Botanic Gardens, Madu River boat ride, turtle hatchery); Optional tours and optional activities; Train tickets (if you choose the scenic train); Hotel supplements when you travel on 24 December and 31 December (New Year), and the Christmas supplement on 24 December; Tips, porterage and personal expenses; Early check-in and late check-out at hotels; Travel insurance and bank charges.

Is the price the same on 24 and 31 December?

Not quite. Hotels charge a compulsory supplement for the nights of 24 December (Christmas Eve) and 31 December (New Year's Eve), and these supplements are not included in the tour price. If your dates include either night, tell us when you enquire and we will confirm the supplement for the hotels on your route before you book.

Can I customize this tour?

Yes. The order of stops, the number of nights in each place, the hotels and the activities can all be adjusted to your dates, pace and budget — this is a private tour built around you, not a fixed group departure. Tell us what you would like to change and we will send a revised quote.
